
Dr. Nathan Woods serves as the President of STEM Synergy’s Board of Directors, bringing extensive experience in mechanical engineering and customer support within the aviation industry. He holds a Ph.D. from Antioch University, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and an MBA, both from Wright State University near Dayton, Ohio, USA.
Dr. Woods began his career as a research engineer at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, focusing on gas turbine engines. His master’s thesis explored active flow control methods to enhance low-pressure turbine efficiency. He then joined Rolls Royce as a high-pressure turbine design engineer.
In 2008, Dr. Woods joined GE Aviation as a CF6 Diagnostics Fleet Manager, monitoring operational data and recommending maintenance for airlines globally. In 2014, he relocated to Ethiopia as a Field Service Engineer, supporting Ethiopian Airlines and other Sub-Saharan carriers. By 2019, he was promoted to Senior Customer Support Manager, overseeing support operations for airlines across Africa, including Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, EgyptAir, and Air Algérie.
Beyond his professional roles, Dr. Woods is committed to community development. He collaborated with the Hidaya Development Association to secure a $12,500 grant from GE Africa, empowering 200 women entrepreneurs through training in marketing, finance, and access to microfinance loans.
As President of STEM Synergy’s Board, Dr. Woods leverages his expertise to advance STEM education and technological innovation, particularly in under-resourced regions.
STEM Synergy Inc. is a U.S.-based international NGO, also registered in Canada, dedicated to advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, entrepreneurship, and social enterprises in Ethiopia.
