Yonas Tadesse (PhD)

Dr. Yonas Tadesse is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas. He earned a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Addis Ababa University, a Master’s from the Indian Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech University. Recognized as a rising star in research, Yonas was awarded the 2015 Young Investigator Program (YIP) by the Office of Naval Research.

His research interests include humanoid robotics, soft robotics, smart materials and structures, sensors, actuators, mechatronic systems, multimodal energy harvesting, and biomimetics. One of his standout accomplishments is the development of a robot jellyfish that operates without the need for batteries or electricity, showcasing his innovative contributions to the field of robotics and engineering. His work continues to shape advancements in robotics and energy-efficient technologies.
